There is an extremely satisfying loop to building a deck, testing it out against friends, finding out what works, and tweaking what doesn’t. That process has made Magic: The Gathering the indomitable force it has been for decades and propelled Blizzard’s Hearthstone to rake in enormous revenue.

Labyrinth takes a different approach, blending the deck-building with gameplay similar to Final Fantasy Tactics. You’ll create decks for three different characters and, in early access, take that team against a human opponent.

As the game progresses through development, Free Range Games will add dungeon-building and defense decks to further tailor the experience. Dungeon decks will allow players to add monsters and traps as defense against the opposing player.

Play is asynchronous, so you can step away and rejoin a game after your opponent makes his or her move. You can check out a trailer above. Labyrinth is priced at $9.99 while it is in early access. You can check out a preview from October to learn more.
