Transformers: Devastation is on the way later this year on October 6, and in honor of the impending release, we decided to take a look at one of the game's biggest stars, the giant combiner robot, Devastator. Tim Turi and I sat down to look at the recent Comic-Con exclusive version of the figure, screen some footage of the character in Platinum's upcoming game, and talk about the history of the character and what makes him so cool.
For those new to the Transformers mythology, Devastator was the original combining robot in the fiction, though the history of combining robots in Japanese popular culture had existed for several years prior. Devastator is formed of six individual Constructicons – Scrapper, Hook, Bonecrusher, Long Haul, Mixmaster, and Scavenger – but only by combining together into one giant robot do they reach the height of their power. In the original cartoon, the Constructicons were cast as former friends of the giant Autobot, Omega Supreme, only to later betray the gentle giant and take up arms with the Decepticons.
Take a look back with us at Devastator, as well as a look forward to both his current toy and game versions, and share your memories of the G1 Transformers in the comments below.
