From its first introduction a year ago at PAX East, Harebrained Schemes’ Necropolis has had our attention. The blend of roguelite gameplay, a sinister and taunting guide, and dynamic interplay among the labyrinth’s creatures all set the game apart.

Today, Harebrained Schemes announces that you will not need to venture into the archmage Abraxis’ Necropolis alone. The game supports up to four players, which will allow for greater depth of strategy.

As we mentioned in our hands-on preview, you can lure enemies into each others paths. A predator/prey relationship might distract the foes long enough that you can slip by or get in the killing blow. Being able to kite enemies (as you might in an MMO) while the rest of the team holds fast might increase your survival rate by a few minutes.

Like many other roguelites, the Necropolis will reset every time you die and have to restart. Terrain will shift and you’ll have to relearn the layout. And, of course, the Brazen Head (the sinister guide mentioned earlier) won’t let you off without a few barbs if you do perish.

Necropolis will be out on Steam on March 17. Pre-orders will begin on February 2.
