Codemasters' F1 2016 is rebuilding its feature set after years of neglect, and today the developer has announced a new multiplayer mode that raises the stakes.

The game's Multiplayer Championship mode not only allows you to race with others, but has its own season framework that pits racing teams – as well as teammates – against each other. The 22-player Championship can also be used for league play, but all the details of this structure are not spelled out yet. It's also unknown at this time if the Multiplayer Championship allows for local play.

For more on the game's career mode, check out the new trailer below.

F1 2016 comes out for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on August 19.
