The game loosely based on an unfinished Akira Kurosawa script that was announced ten years ago is finally nearing release.

The game is coming exclusively to PlayStation 4 and today Sony announced an alpha demo for the game will be available from April 26 to May 5. The blog post also promises the game will be out this year, though exactly when is unclear. Additionally, players who complete the alpha demo will be able to grab the The Mark of the Conqueror DLC which apparently entitles you to some special DLC in the full game.

If you're unfamiliar, Nioh was announced 10 years ago at E3, but has more or less disappeared in the following years. It is developed by Team Ninja, who known best for the Ninja Gaiden games. As you can see in the new trailer below, the game seems at least somewhat inspired by From Software's Souls games, but with a feudal Japan and Samurai setting. The trailer even features the phrase, "Ready to die?" in big bold letters.
